Who will be the 70?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

What is your reasonable service? This is the question we are asking of the KCBT body this year. We will need more people than ever before to come forward and take positions of service. Our heart is that some of you who have not gotten involved in any area of KCBT would start here. Our need is for seventy people to step up in the next two months. Will that be you?

At this point, about fifteen people have put their name in as being able to assist.  Please take a moment and prayerfully consider one of the areas below.  If you would like more details or have any questions,  please check out the Get Involved section of our website or contact Chris Ruzicka at 816.358.0988 x 2041.  Be sure to include your name, phone number, area of interest, any related skills and, of course, questions.

Watchmen

These men and women provide aid and security on Sunday mornings and for special events.  They have been certified in several security areas in order to qualify.  If you have law enforcement, armed forces, or just generally enjoy protecting people, this position is for you.  Please prayerfully consider joining this crew.  We need you.

Evening Patrol

These individuals will watch our parking lots on the weeknights between the hours of 5:00-9:00 making sure all is in order for our guests and members during the week nights.  This will become very important as we will be asked to park further from the building.   We need you.

Traffic Facilitators

Seeking men and women to help direct traffic on Sunday mornings with a bright orange vest and whistle.  Traffic flow will be all important when our main parking lot goes away.  We will need help directing, and educating our members and guests where they can drive, park and drop off.  We are looking for 30 members to help us in this area.  We need you.

Parking Lot Aids

We will begin transporting those with physical challenges from Parking Lot A, next to Temple Heights, to the building.  We will have two golf carts to help with this process.  We are asking for two to four people each week to assist in this area.   We need you.

Shuttle Drivers

Without any real parking opportunities in our main parking lot, the upper lot, near the ball fields will be used much more.   We are in need of more drivers to help keep up with the demand.  There will be at least 5 shuttles running on Sunday morning.  We need you.

Other areas of need include the following; facility cleaning, mowing, on-call weekday drivers, snow removal, Sunday greeters, vehicle cleaning, flower garden maintenance, kitchen cleaning, floor cleaning, powerwashing, painting and Sunday EMTs.

RS09: Bring in the Bulldozers

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Bring in the bulldozers, jack hammers and dump trucks.  Tear up that parking lot.  Rip it to shreds.   How exciting will that be?  It is almost here.  As the countdown clock ticks away, the fruit of 15 years of praying and planning will begin to take shape where you and I used to park.    It will be an extremely large fruit of metal and glass and concrete and less convenient parking.   Entering the building is going to be radically different for about a year.  We need your help to make the transition as smooth as possible.  On Ground breaking Sunday, March 15 we will be handing out a map of the property detailing the traffic flow.

Please consider helping us in the following areas…we need you.

WATCHMEN

These men and women provide aid and security on Sunday mornings and for special events.  They have been certified in several security areas in order to qualify.  If you have law enforcement experience, armed forces training, or just generally enjoy protecting people, this position is for you.  Please prayerfully consider joining this crew.  We need you.

Reasonable Service 2009 - Now is the time

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

As Esther begins to work her magic into our hearts, I can’t help but think about how God has placed you and I in this city, in this local church, for today’s mission.  He doesn’t make mistakes.  He has plucked us from oblivion, to minister to Him, his Church, and those needing answers to life.

The Reasonable Service ministry focuses on ministering to His Church.  Very specifically, church members taking care of the facility God has given us, so that ministering to people can happen effectively in this place.  Will you take part in this process?

The three examples below are just a small part of the needs here at KCBT.  If one of these or anything from the list below interests you, please contact Chris Ruzicka at 816.358.0988 x 2041.  Please include your name, phone number, area of interest, any related skills and any questions about the ministry.  You can also find additional information about these areas and others in the Get Involved section of our website.

Snow Removal

When it snows, this team makes a way into the parking lots and buildings.  Sidewalks, drives, and parking spaces are all cleared and salt is applied to help our members get in and out of the building safely.  This is an on-call ministry.  You could receive a phone call at midnight on Saturday night asking for your service.  We all need to get in the building on Sunday morning, and that doesn’t happen without a lot of work from our snow removal team.  We really need your help so please consider signing up today.

Sunday Greeters

These are the individuals who help welcome people to our church and get them pointed in the right direction:   toward classes, student and children’s ministries, and the main service.  We need smiling faces who are willing to devote one Sunday a month to this ministry.

Facility Cleaning

This dedicated group works on different cleaning projects throughout the year.   We currently meet the second Friday of the  month at 8:30am.  We are hoping to expand this to different days and times.  When can you volunteer time to clean?

Other current areas of need include the following:  facility cleaning, mowing, Sunday shuttle rivers, on-call weekday drivers, snow removal, Sunday greeters, vehicle cleaning, flower garden maintenance, kitchen cleaning, floor cleaning, concession stand workers, ball field setup, power washing, painting, Sunday watchmen, and Sunday EMTs.

RS 09: Calling all members

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Have you thought about your piece to the volunteer puzzle? This month, I would like to describe the picture on the front of the puzzle box. This particular puzzle has over 2,000 pieces. It happens to be 3-D, with many vibrant colors, shapes and textures all forming a building three stories high, complete with landscaping, scores of windows and doors, a detailed interior with over 75 rooms, 22 restrooms, miles of halls and walls, hundreds of corners, five distinct staircases, hundreds of tables and thousands of chairs. If you look even closer at the box cover, you begin to see 40 acres with three more buildings. Beautiful flowers, bushes and trees are everywhere. There are fields for recreation and even a giant covered patio complete with a large grill. There are more than 12 vehicles on the puzzle box.

We need many of the 2,000 pieces to be engaged in maintaining our beautiful facility. In order for the buildings and property to remain clean, beautiful and appealing, all members with a giving and helping heart are encouraged to lay their piece on the table. We are currently forming teams of volunteers for 2009. Here is a list of the needs:  on call snow removal (desperately needed right now), facility cleaning, mowing, Sunday shuttle drivers, on call weekday drivers, Sunday greeters, vehicle cleaning, flower garden maintenance, kitchen cleaning, floor cleaning, concession stand workers, ball field setup, powerwashing, painting, Sunday watchmen and Sunday EMTs.

In some of these areas we need team leaders that are knowledgeable in the specific area and committed to building, maintaining and growing their teams. If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Chris Ruzicka at 816.358.0988 x 2041. Please include your name, phone number, area of interest, any related skills and of course questions.  You can also visit the Get Involved section of our website for more information an these areas.

We are asking for a commitment of two hours a month for 12 months. That’s simply 24 hours out of the 8,760 you have to spend next year. It works out to 0.2% of your time. We look forward to your phone calls and emails. Our current puzzle box is quite beautiful. We just need the pieces to assemble the picture.   Wait until you see the 2010 puzzle box!

Volunteer Ministry Re-energized: What is your piece?

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

One of the emptiest feelings in life is spending five hours putting a puzzle together and realizing you are missing a piece. That piece is key to that puzzle fulfilling its purpose in your life. Whether it is esthetic beauty or a sense of accomplishment, all the pieces coming together are the key to the satisfaction you seek. That feeling of emptiness or incompleteness is only solved by finding that piece. Maybe the piece that is missing in your life is the beautiful puzzle piece called volunteerism.

This volunteerism puzzle piece was created in 2006, through the vision of Jeff Cox. The volunteer ministry called VP820 was launched, and scores of you donated a couple hours, one Friday each month for a whole year. You showed up and accomplished what the church needed. You felt the bond of teamwork and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Almost three years later KCBT wants to take the next step in this vital ministry. VP820 has a new name - RS09 (Reasonable Service 2009) - and we are expanding this ministry to include new areas that match the gifts and talents the Lord has given you. For a church our size to function adequately, we need the help of the “pieces” of our church. You may be the piece we are missing. Please prayerfully consider the coming opportunities to serve your church body in an exciting and practical way. We will be asking for a one year commitment to your selected area of service. More pieces to the volunteer puzzle will be coming soon; for now, will you consider the piece that God would have you to be?
